Mike And Nick and Nick and Alice 2026 Review

Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice

Nobody told BenDavid Grabinski that crime comedies are not supposed to have time travel. Nobody told him that action films are not supposed to be this funny. Nobody told him anything. And the result is one of the most genuinely entertaining films of 2026.

Mike and Nick are low-level gangsters and best friends. Mike is having an affair with Nick’s wife. They are both about to have the worst night of their lives. Then a time machine appears. The second Nick shows up. And everything becomes beautifully complicated.

Mike and Nick and Nick and Alice is the kind of film that reminds you why you started loving movies in the first place. It is fast, funny, surprising, and unexpectedly moving.

Mike And Nick and Nick and Alice 2026 Story and Plot Explained

Mob boss Sosa is celebrating the release of his son Jimmy Boy from prison. Among the guests are Quick Draw Mike and his best friend Nick. Mike has a secret. He is in love with Nick’s wife Alice. The two plan to leave together that night.

Before they can go, Nick asks Mike for one last favour. He needs help kidnapping a man. Mike agrees. When they find the target, it turns out to be Nick himself. A second Nick. One who arrived via a time machine from the not-so-distant future.

The present Nick runs. Future Nick starts giving Mike instructions he cannot fully understand yet. Meanwhile Sosa suspects someone in his organisation betrayed his son to the police. He has called in a hitman called The Barron. Mike is the prime suspect.

Now Mike has two Nicks, one hitman, a mob boss, and the woman he loves all converging on the same night with no clean exit. Time travel is not a gimmick. It is what forces everyone to face what they actually want.

What the Film Gets Right

  • Vince Vaughn plays two versions of the same character and makes them feel genuinely different. Future Nick carries the weight of experience. Present Nick carries the weight of guilt. Vaughn never lets the two blur.
  • James Marsden is a revelation. His comedic timing is sharper than it has ever been. He anchors every scene and makes Quick Draw Mike someone you root for despite his questionable choices.
  • Eiza Gonzalez plays Alice with intelligence and real comic authority. She is not a passive figure in the love triangle. She drives the film’s emotional engine.
  • Keith David as Sosa is pure cinema. Every line he delivers carries the full weight of a man who has been running this organisation for decades. He is terrifying and hilarious in equal measure.
  • The needle drops are exceptional. Billy Joel opens the film. Steve Winwood arrives at exactly the right moment. The music choices feel personal rather than commercial.
  • Grabinski directs action with genuine confidence. The fight choreography is crisp. The climax is staged with the kind of spatial clarity that most action directors spend careers trying to achieve.

Weaknesses and Criticism

The film takes roughly 20 minutes to fully come alive. The opening establishes the world well but the comedy does not find its stride until the second Nick appears. First-time viewers unfamiliar with BenDavid Grabinski’s style may need patience in the early scenes.

A handful of supporting characters exist mainly for their names. Dumbass Tony and Roid Rage Ryan land their moments but function as props rather than people. The film does not need them to work but their thinness is noticeable alongside the sharply written leads.

The romantic resolution between Mike and Alice moves quickly. Given how much of the film builds toward it, the payoff feels slightly compressed. A few more minutes in the final act would have let the emotional conclusion breathe more fully.
